Gov. Ododo Commended as Stakeholders Review Lokoja Master Plan
The event, held at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Lokoja, had in attendance the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry; the Director General, Bureau of Lands; the General Manager, Town Planning and Development Board; the Director General, Kogi Geographical Information Services (KGIS); the Surveyor-General of Kogi State; the Consultant, Town Planner Nathaniel Atebije; as well as other directors and staff of the Ministry.
In his welcome address, Hon. Abanika described the master plan as “not just a document, but a blueprint for sustainable growth, modern infrastructure, and improved quality of life for the people of Kogi State.” He further emphasized that the initiative reflects the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, whose commitment to urban renewal, affordable housing, and sustainable development continues to shape a progressive future for the state.
The Commissioner noted that flagship projects such as the ongoing construction of the Ultra-Modern Market in Lokoja and the Renewed Hope City of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which His Excellency Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo’s government has keyed into, demonstrate the government’s dedication to addressing housing challenges, creating livable environments, and laying the foundation for urban prosperity. He added that the Lokoja Master Plan, when implemented, will guide balanced expansion, environmental sustainability, improved livability, and enhanced economic activities, while also extending development opportunities across all senatorial districts.
In his detailed presentation, the Consultant, Town Planner Nathaniel Atebije, commended Governor Ododo for his foresight in initiating the plan. He observed that the absence of a comprehensive master plan in the past had limited the state’s economic potential and affected the well-being of its citizens. According to him, the new framework will align Kogi State with other rapidly developing cities globally.
Also speaking at the meeting, the Director General of the Bureau of Lands, the Director General of KGIS, and the General Manager of the Town Planning and Development Board each pledged their unwavering support for the consultant in achieving the goals of the project. They described the Lokoja Master Plan as a historic intervention that will provide a structured framework for land administration, revenue generation, urban planning, and sustainable development. While appreciating Governor Ododo for giving them the opportunity to contribute their quota to the transformation of the state, they assured that their respective institutions would play active roles in ensuring the success of the project.
The session concluded with a collective call for collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the plan for the benefit of present and future generations.
