NYCN Presidency: Comrade Babangida Isah Declares Ambition with Bold Vision for Youth Empowerment, Education, and Governance
As the race for the National Presidency of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) gains momentum, Comrade Babangida Isah, the current Senior Special Assistant to the Kogi State Governor on Community engagement, has emerged as a leading contender with a transformative and ambitious agenda that is already turning heads across the country.
In a formal declaration of his candidacy, Comrade Isah unveiled a robust policy blueprint aimed at redefining the NYCN and repositioning it as a formidable vehicle for youth empowerment, national unity, and inclusive development.
Tech-Driven Education and Youth Innovation Hubs
At the center of Isah’s presidential bid is a commitment to digital literacy and 21st-century education. He promised to establish state-of-the-art technology hubs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones in partnership with leading tech companies. These hubs will serve as incubation centres for innovation, digital skills acquisition, and entrepreneurial development, giving Nigerian youths the tools they need to thrive in a competitive global economy.
He also called for a comprehensive review of the national curriculum, advocating the inclusion of coding, artificial intelligence, robotics, and critical thinking to prepare young people for the future of work.
Mental Health, Welfare, and Safe Spaces for Youths
Recognizing the mental health challenges many young Nigerians face, Comrade Isah proposed a National Youth Mental Health Support Programme. The initiative will prioritize counseling services, awareness campaigns, and the establishment of support structures for vulnerable youth.
In addition, he plans to launch youth-friendly centres nationwide, safe spaces for mentorship, rehabilitation, and personal development, especially targeting at-risk and underserved communities.
Civic Engagement and Political Representation
As part of his commitment to strengthening youth participation in governance, Comrade Isah unveiled plans for a Youth Political Literacy Campaign that will raise civic awareness and encourage greater youth involvement in democratic processes.
He is also advocating for constitutional amendments that will institutionalize a national youth quota in political appointments and elective offices, ensuring that young people have a guaranteed seat at the table in decision-making bodies across the country.
Peacebuilding Through Youth Corps
To address issues of national unity and community security, Isah proposed the creation of a National Youth Peace Corps under the NYCN. This volunteer force would lead grassroots peacebuilding efforts, inter-ethnic dialogue, and community-based surveillance, fostering peaceful coexistence led by youth initiatives.
NYCN Reform and Decentralization
Comrade Isah’s campaign also includes a strong institutional reform component. If elected as National President, he plans to digitize and decentralize NYCN operations to promote transparency, effectiveness, and grassroots inclusion. A constitutional review of the NYCN’s guiding framework, he said, will be prioritized to bring the Council in line with modern governance practices.
“The NYCN must evolve from being a symbolic institution to a functional and impactful force,” Isah declared.
“As President, I will ensure we become more accessible, more accountable, and more relevant to the needs of every Nigerian youth whether in the urban centers or the remotest villages. I will lead with humility, purpose, and integrity.” he added.
A Movement, Not Just a Campaign
As the NYCN election draws near, Comrade Babangida Isah’s candidacy for National President is fast transforming from a political ambition into a national youth movement. His message of innovation, inclusion, and impact is resonating deeply with young Nigerians who are hungry for real change. With momentum building and support swelling across the geopolitical zones, many believe Isah represents not just a contender but a catalyst for a generational shift in youth leadership.
If elected, he is poised to not only redefine the NYCN but to ignite a new era of purposeful youth governance; one that speaks boldly, acts decisively, and delivers tangibly for the next generation.
