GOV. ODODO HANDS OVER SITES FOR CONSTRUCTION OF 700-BED HOSTEL FACILITIES AT CUSTECH, OSARA

The Kogi State Government has taken another bold step towards strengthening tertiary education infrastructure as Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo officially handed over sites for the construction of two ultra-modern hostel facilities at the permanent campus of the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara.

The Governor, who was represented at the ceremony on Monday, 27th July, 2026, by the Honourable Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Abanika Taiye, performed the site handover to contractors for the construction of a 350-bed male hostel and a 350-bed female hostel, bringing the total new accommodation capacity to 700 bed spaces.

Speaking on behalf of Governor Ododo, Hon. Abanika Taiye said the project showcases the administration's unwavering commitment to expanding critical infrastructure in the education sector and creating an environment that promotes academic excellence. He explained that the hostel projects constitute the second phase of students' accommodation development at the University, following the institution's steady increase in enrolment.

The Commissioner noted that Governor Ododo approved the projects to address accommodation needs and improve the living conditions of students, thereby complementing the University's rapid growth. He charged the contractors to execute the projects in strict compliance with approved specifications, maintain the highest standards of quality, and ensure timely delivery, stressing that the facilities must truly serve as a home away from home for students.

He further reaffirmed that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development remains committed to delivering durable public infrastructure that aligns with the Governor's vision of providing quality educational facilities across Kogi State.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of CUSTECH, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu, FNSE, expressed appreciation to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for fulfilling his promise to provide additional hostel accommodation for the institution. He also commended the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development for its commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of the project.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the additional hostel facilities will significantly improve students' welfare, enhance campus security, and support the effective management of the University's growing population. He urged the contractors to uphold professionalism and deliver work of the highest quality.

The 350-bed female hostel will be constructed by Musalib Construction Limited, while the 350-bed male hostel will be executed by Qiblah Global Option Limited.

Speaking on behalf of the contractors, Engr. Aliyu Taofeek thanked the Kogi State Government for the opportunity to execute the projects and assured the Government and the University of the timely delivery of durable and high-quality hostel facilities.

The site handover ceremony was attended by principal officers of the University, officials of the Kogi State Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, representatives of the contracting firms, and other key stakeholders.
