Ododo’s Mandate Driving Our Pharmaceutical Plant Inspections to Guarantee Quality Drugs — Pharm. Salamat

The Kogi State Drugs and Medical Supplies Management Agency says its ongoing inspection of pharmaceutical manufacturing plants is part of deliberate efforts to guarantee the availability of safe, quality and affordable medicines in the state, in line with the healthcare vision of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

The Executive Secretary of the Agency, Pharm. Ibrahim Onize Salamat, disclosed this following a series of pharmaceutical plant visits conducted between May and August 2026 as part of the Agency’s 2026 Annual Operational Plan.

According to her, the exercise was designed to enable the Agency trace the sources of medicines supplied to Kogi State, assess production facilities and quality control systems, and verify compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) standards.

The visits, facilitated by the Kogi State Government in collaboration with the African Resource Centre for Excellence in Supply Chain Management (ARC-ESM), covered Sagar Vitaceuticals Nig. Ltd. in Ogun State, Afri Medical Pharmaceutical and Fidson PLC in Lagos.

At Sagar Vitaceuticals, the team assessed facilities producing tablets, capsules, syrups, suspensions, creams, ointments and sachet powders, while the visit to Afri Medical Pharmaceutical provided first-hand assessment of the production and quality control of needles and syringes.

Engagements with Fidson PLC focused on strengthening the existing partnership with Kogi State and addressing lead-time challenges to improve the timely delivery of essential medicines.

Pharm. Salamat said the inspections had given the Agency valuable insight into production capacity, quality assurance, costs and delivery timelines, which would strengthen procurement decisions and negotiations under the State Drug Revolving Fund.

She commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his commitment and support towards strengthening the state’s healthcare system, noting that the plant inspections were part of the administration’s broader effort to build a reliable and sustainable medicine supply chain.

She assured that the Agency would sustain engagements and inspections of pharmaceutical manufacturers partnering with the state to ensure that only safe, quality and affordable medicines reach government-owned health facilities and health programmes across Kogi State.
