Hon. Abanika Urges Kogites to Vote APC for Greater Grassroots Development, Hails Gov. Ododo for Promoting Democracy

...As Kogi Government Declares Friday Public Holiday Ahead of Saturday’s LG Election

The Kogi State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Abanika Taiye, has called on the people of Kogi State to come out en masse on Saturday, October 17, to vote for candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming Local Government Council elections to sustain grassroots development and attract more dividends of democracy to the people.

Hon. Abanika made the call while commending the state government under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for creating a peaceful and conducive atmosphere for political parties to participate in the electoral process.

The Commissioner described the declaration of Friday, October 16, 2026, as a public holiday by the Kogi State Government as a demonstration of its commitment to ensuring that eligible voters, particularly civil servants, have the opportunity to exercise their franchise in the local government elections.

The holiday was announced by the Secretary to the Government of Kogi State, Mrs. Folashade Ayoade, following the approval of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to enable civil servants and other eligible voters to prepare for and participate in the electoral exercise.

Hon. Abanika praised Governor Ododo for entrenching democratic values and providing an atmosphere in which political parties can freely canvass for votes, stressing that the ability of citizens to express their political choices through the ballot is a hallmark of responsive leadership and democratic governance.

According to him, the forthcoming election presents another opportunity for the people to consolidate the gains of the present administration by electing leaders who share the APC's vision of delivering development and effective governance at the grassroots.

He urged residents across the 21 local government areas of the state to turn out in large numbers and vote peacefully, while calling on party supporters to conduct themselves responsibly before, during and after the election.

The Commissioner particularly appealed to the people of Ajaokuta Local Government Area to demonstrate political maturity, maintain peace and remain law-abiding throughout the electoral process.

Hon. Abanika further expressed confidence that a successful outing for the APC in the local government elections would serve as a stepping stone towards the party's anticipated victory in the 2027 general elections.

He urged voters to support candidates with the capacity and commitment to deliver meaningful development, improve living conditions and advance the interests of their respective communities.
