Housing, Works Commissioners Attend Inike Chief Imam Turbaning, Reaffirm Ododo Govt’s Support for Religious Harmony
The Honourable Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Abanika Taiye, alongside the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Engr. Muhammad Ahovi, on Saturday, 27 December 2025, attended the turbaning ceremony of Mallam Abdullahi Umar Abanika as the Chief Imam of Inike Central Mosque, Okene.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Abanika Taiye congratulated the newly turbaned Chief Imam, describing him as a man of piety and deep commitment to Islamic teachings. He urged the Imam to be a father to all, promote peaceful coexistence, and uphold the teachings of the Holy Qur’an in the discharge of his spiritual duties.
The Housing Commissioner further assured the gathering that the administration of His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has continued to provide an enabling environment for freedom of worship and religious tolerance across Kogi State. He called on the people to remain united and to continually pray for the success of the current administration.
In his remarks, the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Engr. Muhammad Ahovi, commended the choice of Mallam Abdullahi Umar Abanika, describing him as a renowned Islamic scholar worthy of the responsibility bestowed on him. He expressed confidence in the Chief Imam’s capacity to provide sound spiritual leadership to the Ummah.
Engr. Ahovi, in his usual magnanimity, made a cash donation in support of the ongoing construction of the mosque and pledged the continuous support of the Ododo-led government to projects that will positively impact the people of the area and the state at large.
The Ummah present at the ceremony appreciated the presence and support of the two Commissioners, describing them as worthy ambassadors of Islam in the Ododo administration, while offering prayers for God’s continued blessings, protection, and success in their service to the state.
