Hope Rises for Lokoja Residents as Kogi Housing Commissioner Inspects Estate Development Site, Lauds Engineers of Ultra-Modern Market and Audit House Complex

In a bold move signaling a commitment to development, the Kogi State Honourable Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Abanika Taiye, on Thursday, January 16, 2025, led a site inspection with developers to assess the suitability of a proposed housing project. The site, covering more than 15 hectares of land in the Crusher area of Lokoja, is earmarked for a modern estate under a government-private partnership arrangement.Hon. Abanika, defying the challenging terrain, emphasized that the administration of His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo is steadfast in delivering quality and affordable housing to the people of Kogi State. He stated that the project’s strategic location would help transform Lokoja into a modern city upon completion.
"I am confident that before the end of the first term of His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, there will be a significant reduction in the housing deficit in Lokoja and its environs. That is why we are actively seeking partnerships with developers and creating a conducive environment for investment. Housing challenges cannot be resolved by the government alone, and collaboration is key to achieving our goals," Hon. Abanika said.
The developers, impressed by the commissioner’s personal involvement, praised the state government for its hands-on approach. They assured that once permissions and documentation are finalized, a groundbreaking ceremony with Governor Ododo would soon follow.
The Honourable Commissioner also visited the ongoing construction of the Lokoja Ultra-Modern Market on line 4 and Audit House Complex. At the market site, he expressed satisfaction with the speed of work and the high-tech equipment deployed by the contractors. He commended their efforts and encouraged them to maintain the momentum.
At the Audit House Complex, Hon. Abanika reiterated the administration's commitment to excellence, emphasizing that the Ododo administration’s standards must not be compromised. He lauded the contractors for adhering to contractual agreements and maintaining quality standards.
Hon. Abanika highlighted the broader vision of making Kogi State a commercial hub in Nigeria. He noted that projects like the housing estate, the ultra-modern market, and the audit complex are crucial steps in positioning Kogi State to compete with industrialized states such as Lagos and Port Harcourt.
"When these projects are completed, Kogi State will stand as a beacon of progress and innovation, showcasing the visionary leadership of His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo," the commissioner said.
Lokoja residents eagerly anticipate the completion of these projects, which promise to improve the city’s infrastructure, boost commerce, and provide much-needed housing solutions.
