World Pharmacist Day: Association of Lady Pharmacists Kogi Chapter Sensitize Students on Pharmacy as a Career Path

 

As part of the World Pharmacist Day celebrations, the Association of Lady Pharmacists in Kogi State organized a sensitization campaign at GYB Model Secondary School, Adankolo, Lokoja. The campaign aimed to educate students about the noble profession of pharmacy and encourage them to consider it as a future career path. This year’s World Pharmacist Day theme, “Pharmacists: Meeting Global Health Needs,” was a focal point throughout the event.

The event was led by the Chairperson, Pharmacist Kudirat Nasiru, Consultant Clinical Pharmacist Federal University Lokoja Health Centre, who, in her opening remarks, expressed deep appreciation for the invaluable services rendered by pharmacists across various workplaces. She emphasized that the role of pharmacists in healthcare is immeasurable and essential to meeting global health needs, echoing the theme of the year.

The guest speaker, Pharmacist Salamat Ize, Executive Secretary of the Kogi State Drugs and Medical Supply Management Agency (KSDMSMA), praised the efforts of the Association and the support from the Kogi State Government. She commended the state's initiative in establishing quality educational institutions like the GYB Model Secondary School. Pharmacist Salamat urged the students to leverage the opportunities provided by the government under His Excellency, Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo, and consider pursuing a career in pharmacy, a field essential for addressing global health challenges.

In her comprehensive lecture, Pharmacist Salamat detailed the various fields within pharmacy, the critical roles pharmacists play, and the importance of proper drug administration and usage. She highlighted how pharmacists ensure the safety and efficacy of medications, contributing significantly to public health and supporting global health needs.

The event’s highlight was the presentation of cash rewards to selected students, as well as the distribution of academic souvenirs to over 200 attendees. The management team of GYB Model Secondary School expressed gratitude to the Association of Lady Pharmacists for choosing their school for the sensitization campaign. They assured the Association that the students would fully benefit from the teachings.

The students, excited by the visit, showed their appreciation with resounding applause throughout the event, demonstrating their enthusiasm and engagement with the session’s valuable insights.

This event marks yet another effort by the Association of Lady Pharmacists to inspire and educate future generations about the critical role pharmacists play in healthcare, aligned with this year's global theme of meeting the world's health needs.
