Ododo Committed to Quality Education - Abdulmalik

Kogi State Governor, Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo has been described as a leader with unwavering commitment to providing a high-quality education for every child, regardless of their background or socio- economic status.

The Special Adviser on Education to the Governor of Kogi State, Hon. Abdullahi Abdulmalik gave the commendation during his meeting with the stakeholders in Education and principals of secondary schools in Kogi West senatorial district.

The Special Adviser also commended Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Mr. Wemi Jones for demonstrating exceptional proactiveness in addressing examination malpractices in the state.

According to him, the Commissioner has traded the length and breath of academic tunnel and has carved a niche for himself in the hall of education.

The Special Adviser explained that the commissioner for education has giving him the charge to meet with stakeholders in Education in the three senatorial districts of Kogi State to access the level of compliance of schools to government policies, and also to get feed back from them to enable the government tackle their challenges effectively.

He said similar meeting held in Kogi Central on the 11th of December, 2024 and he has proposed meeting with the  stakeholders in Education in Kogi East on the 19th of December, 2024.


Reiterating the stand of the Kogi State government in the education sector, the Special Adviser said Education remains free in Kogi State at both primary and secondary school levels, stating further that for students preparing to write WASSCE, they are required to provide BECE certificate obtained from any public school in Kogi State as a prerequisite for inclusion in the free registration for WAEC in the state.

The Special Adviser also revealed that Kogi State Government has released over six hundred million naira for the registration of WASSCE for over eighteen thousand secondary school students of Kogi State origin.

Making further clarifications on students scholarships and bursary allowance, he said Kogi state government has also approved over three hundred million naira for the payment of bursary allowance to students of Kogi state origin in tertiary institution across the country, where law school students of Kogi state origin would receive three hundred thousand naira each, as support from the state government.

In his goodwill message, Kogi State ANCOPPS president, Comrade Suberu Jimoh Omananyi, thanked former governor Yahaya Bello for giving Kogi State a worthy successor.

He lauded governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for the prompt payment of salaries to workers, particularly to teachers in the state and the on-going projects across the state. 

The ANCOPPS president used the occasion to appeal to Kogi State government to recruit more teachers in schools, citing shortage of staff as a major challenge bedevilling development of schools in the state.

In his response to the appeal made by the ANCOPPS president, the Special Adviser said the Ministry of Education under the pragmatic leadership of Mr Wemi Jones will continue to engage with stakeholders, including teachers, parents, and students, to develop a comprehensive education plan that will address the state’s specific needs and challenges.

He explained that Kogi State government has plan to recruit four thousand teachers, noting that only one thousand, one hundred teachers out of this number has been employed so far. He said more teachers would be recruited in the first quarter of next year.

The Special Adviser assured school heads and principals that Kogi state government is  committed to providing more teachers, teaching materials, furniture and other facilities to promote quality education in the state.
