Kogi Specialist Hospital Ag. CMD Urges Nurses to Make Definite Impact at National Conference

The Acting Chief Medical Director of Kogi State Specialist Hospital, Lokoja, Dr. Oluseyi Bamidele Folagbade, has charged nurses and other health professionals to ensure their presence leaves a lasting impact wherever they serve. He gave the charge while addressing participants at the Annual National Conference of the Fellowship of Christian Nurses, Nigeria, held from August 11th to 16th, 2025, at the Knowledge of Truth Ministry Inc., Lokoja.

In his goodwill message, Dr. Folagbade commended nurses across the country for their invaluable contributions to healthcare delivery and for their collaboration with other health professionals. He emphasized that the nursing profession remains central to effective medical practice.

Reflecting on his personal journey, the Acting CMD recalled his formative experiences with nurses during his training at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, where he first witnessed childbirth under the supervision of a nurse. He also recounted his service year in Kaduna, where a nurse encouraged him and guided him through his first Caesarean section. “Despite being a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist today, and currently the Acting CMD of Kogi State Specialist Hospital, I can never forget the role nurses played in shaping my career,” he noted.

Speaking on the conference theme, “Making Presence Count in Nursing Practice,” Dr. Folagbade emphasized that no one can give what they do not have. He urged participants to pursue excellence, learn continuously, and embody humility, compassion, and empathy in their service.

To illustrate his point, he shared the story of missionaries who preached about the character of Jesus in a community. To their surprise, the villagers said they had already seen such a man before and led them to someone whose lifestyle mirrored the very message the missionaries preached. “This shows that making a presence count is not just about words but about action and character,” he explained.

Dr. Folagbade concluded by calling on all health workers to embrace collaboration and holistic care, stressing that the vision of the Fellowship—care for the total man: body, spirit, and soul—can only be achieved through unity and service with love.
