GOV ODODO COMMENDS MY PEOPLE FIRST FOUNDATION, DONATES CASH AND RICE TO BENEFICIARY, PLEDGES FURTHER SUPPORT AT HOUSE HANDOVER CEREMONY
The Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has commended the My People First Foundation for its commitment to humanitarian service and community development following the donation of a four-bedroom bungalow to Mama Salametu Shaibu in Obéhira-Uvete, Okene Local Government Area of the state.
Governor Ododo gave the commendation on Friday, June 12, 2026, during the official handover ceremony of the building, where he was represented by the Kogi State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Abanika Taiye.
Speaking on behalf of the Governor, Hon. Abanika described the gesture by the Foundation as a demonstration of compassion, humanity, and a strong commitment to improving the welfare of vulnerable members of society. He particularly praised the Founder of the Foundation, Hajiya Aishat Oyiza Omade, for her vision and dedication to uplifting the less privileged.
The Commissioner conveyed Governor Ododo's goodwill to the beneficiary, the Foundation, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community stakeholders, and residents present at the event, noting that the intervention aligns with the administration's commitment to people-centred governance and social development.
According to him, the Ododo administration remains focused on improving the quality of life of citizens through strategic investments in housing, healthcare, education, infrastructure, agriculture, youth empowerment, and social protection programmes.
He noted that decent shelter remains one of the most important needs of every individual and reaffirmed government's commitment to creating sustainable communities and improving access to quality housing across the state.
The Governor's representative further emphasized that meaningful development requires collaboration between government and non-state actors, including foundations, corporate organizations, and individuals willing to invest in the welfare of citizens.
As part of the event, Hon. Abanika, on behalf of Governor Ododo, made a direct cash donation to the beneficiary and presented bags of rice to support her household. He also announced a cash pledge towards the humanitarian activities of the My People First Foundation in recognition of its contributions to community development and social welfare.
He called on other well-meaning individuals and organizations to emulate the Foundation by supporting initiatives that positively impact vulnerable members of society.
The Governor, through his representative, congratulated Mama Salametu Shaibu on the new home and prayed that it would bring her comfort, peace, security, and happiness for many years.
The event attracted government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community stakeholders, and residents who gathered to witness the formal handover of the four-bedroom bungalow.
The presentation of the house was widely applauded by attendees, who described the intervention by the My People First Foundation as a significant contribution to community development and humanitarian service in Kogi State, as well as a worthy complement to the people-oriented policies of the Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo administration.
