Ogun State Assembly Shakeup: Speaker Kunle Oluomo Impeached Over Grave Allegations, New Leadership Pledges Positive Change and Governor's Support

The lawmaker representing Obafemi Owode State Constituency at the Ogun State House of Assembly, Damilola Soneye, disclosed that Speaker Kunle Oluomo was impeached over gross misconduct. Oluomo faced the impeachment by 18 out of 26 assembly members during a plenary session presided over by Deputy Speaker Mrs. Bolanle Ajayi.

Adegoke Adeyanju, an APC lawmaker representing Yewa North 1 State Constituency, moved the motion for Oluomo's impeachment, seconded by another APC lawmaker, Ademola Adeniran. Soneye explained that Oluomo's removal was due to high-handedness, lack of focus, transparency, arrogance, poor leadership style, financial misappropriation, and inciting members against each other.

Following the impeachment, Mr. Oludaisi Elemide, currently representing Odeda State Constituency, was elected as the new Speaker. Elemide assured the public of law-abiding leadership, emphasizing a positive change and pledged support for Governor Dapo Abiodun. He clarified that the governor had no involvement in the impeachment.

The Clerk and Deputy Clerk, Mr. Deji Adeyemo and Mrs. Funmilayo Adeyemi, were present at the plenary, along with heightened security, including police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps personnel at the Assembly complex.
