Politics is Local: Hon. Abanika Advocates Unity, Peace, and Support for Governor Ododo During Visit to Ancestral Home

On Thursday, December 26, 2024, the Honourable Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Abanika Taiye, visited his ancestral home in Ebiya, Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State. His visit coincided with the third anniversary of the ascension of Idu Asema Aniku-Ubogiri to the throne.

Hon. Abanika congratulated the royal father for his dedication to fostering peace and supporting the administration of His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo. Reflecting on his upbringing in Ebiya, the Commissioner fondly recounted being raised by his grandmother, who happened to be the grandmother of Aniku Igbogiri, the daughter of the great Avidime of Ebiya in the 1980s. He emphasized how the experience shaped his values and strengthened his commitment to his people.
During the celebration, Hon. Abanika called for unity and collective support for the government to ensure the continued delivery of democratic dividends to the community. “Unity of purpose and belief in our dreams are the keys to our growth. Together, we can achieve more for our community and our state,” he remarked.

The Idu Asema and his council of chiefs praised the Commissioner for maintaining strong ties to the community. “You have shown that governance is about staying connected to the people. You’ve made us feel the direct impact of leadership,” they said.
As part of the festivities, Hon. Abanika participated in the ceremonial playing of the Agidibo, a traditional musical instrument, and received prayers from the elders and women for the success of his office and the administration of Governor Ododo.

The Commissioner also attended the end-of-year gathering of a youth group within the community, known as "The Cabals," where he was warmly received. The group entertained him with a masquerade performance and pledged their continued support for the APC-led government and Governor Ododo’s re-election.
In his address to the youths, Hon. Abanika emphasized the importance of returning home to contribute to the community's development. “Our home is our pride. We must all come together to make it great,” he stated, reiterating the governor’s commitment to youth empowerment and poverty alleviation.
As a gesture of goodwill, the Commissioner distributed cash gifts to individuals in the community, further enhancing the festive atmosphere of the event.
