Governor Yusuf Abba Reinstates Sanusi as Emir of Kano

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has reinstated Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi as the Emir of Kano. The announcement came on Thursday after Governor Yusuf signed the new emirate council law at the Government House in Kano.

Earlier in the day, Governor Yusuf held a closed-door meeting with Kano kingmakers and lawmakers, including the Speaker of the State Assembly, Jibrin Falgore, before signing the law at 5:10 PM.

This decision follows the Kano State House of Assembly's passage of a bill on Thursday morning, which dissolved the four additional emirates created by the previous administration of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and removed all five emirs. The new law, titled the Kano State Emirates Council (Amendment No.2) Law, 2024, effectively abolishes the five-emirates system and the first-class emirates in Gaya, Rano, Karaye, and Bichi.
