The Kogi State Government has commenced moves to remodel and rehabilitate the General Hospital, Okpo, in Olamaboro Local Government Area, as part of efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure and service delivery in the area.
The Honourable Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Abanika Taiye, disclosed this on Thursday, September 17, 2026, when he led engineers and technical personnel from the ministry on an inspection of the hospital facility.
Abanika said the intervention was in line with the directive of the State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, to ensure that the hospital receives the necessary infrastructure upgrade to enable it provide better and more conducive healthcare services to the people.
He stressed that the quality of work would not be compromised, noting that the government was interested not only in renovating the structures but also in ensuring that the facility meets the required standard for effective healthcare delivery.
According to the Commissioner, the scope of work covers major components of the hospital, including the main hospital building, security post, staff quarters, driveways and car park, perimeter fencing, as well as external works and landscaping.
The project also provides for the construction of new one-bedroom staff quarters and the renovation of existing two-bedroom, three-bedroom and four-bedroom staff quarters, among other works.
He said the planned intervention was part of the administration's broader commitment to improving public infrastructure and creating a better working environment for healthcare personnel while making healthcare facilities more accessible and conducive for patients.
The inspection team assessed the existing structures and other areas covered by the proposed scope of work, with the Commissioner reiterating the government's determination to ensure that the project is delivered to specification.
The Kogi State Government had earlier identified General Hospital, Okpo, among secondary healthcare facilities receiving attention under its ongoing efforts to rehabilitate and upgrade hospitals across the state.
The intervention is expected to improve the physical environment of the hospital, enhance staff accommodation and strengthen the overall capacity of the facility to serve residents of Olamaboro and neighbouring communities.
