Kogi Electoral Battle and the Opposition Rhetorics
As the Supreme Court verdict approaches, the opposition's rhetoric implies a tacit acceptance of defeat. In my analysis, their claim was untenable from the outset. The SDP failed to secure the requisite 25% of votes in two-thirds of Kogi State's local government areas, rendering their claim invalid. They also failed to provide witnesses to support allegations of irregularities, essential in judicial proceedings. Seeking sympathy through media blackmail while the case is ongoing demonstrates a lack of trust in the judiciary. If they lacked confidence in the judiciary's ability to deliver justice, why did they approach the court?
The eastern tribe's 19-year governance prioritized regional interests, exacerbating division and underdevelopment. In contrast, Governor GYB's administration, despite flaws, achieved notable improvements in unity, religious tolerance, education (Confluence University, Osara; Kogi State University, Kabba), and healthcare (Reference Hospital, Okene; upgraded Kogi State Teaching Hospital, Anyigba; Kogi State College of Health; College of Nursing and Midwifery).
Governance is a collective responsibility. Hold those in power accountable and prioritize constituents' needs, promoting inclusive development. With over 1000 state and local government appointees (at least three from each ward), hold them responsible. As appointees or elected officials, provide essential services like clean water, medical care, and education. Act responsibly; don't divert government interventions meant for your people into personal or family gain. Remember, the streets have a long memory; if they can't ask you today, they will ask tomorrow, and if they can't, their children will ask your children.
In conclusion, the impending verdict highlights the importance of responsible governance. Let us focus on accountability, inclusivity, and progress for all Kogi State citizens.
God bless His Excellency, Alhaji Usman Ahmad Ododo.
