Today marks a significant milestone in the history of Kogi State as we celebrate 33 years since its creation in 1991. Over these three decades, Kogi State has undergone remarkable transformations under the leadership of various dedicated administrators and governors, each playing pivotal roles in the development and progress of our beloved state.
Since its inception, Kogi State has been governed by:
1. Brigadier General Danladi Mohammed Zakari (1991-1992)- The first Military Administrator who laid the foundation for the new state.
2. Prince Abubakar Audu (1992-1993) - The first civilian governor who initiated significant infrastructure projects.
3. Col. Paul Omeruo (1993-1996) - Another Military Administrator who continued the early development initiatives
4. Col. Bzigu Lassa Afakirya (1996-1998)- A Military Administrator who focused on stability during his tenure.
5. Col. Augustine Aniebo (1998-1999) - Continued the military-led administration with a focus on security and infrastructure. He was the last Military Administrator before the return to democracy.
7. Prince Abubakar Audu (1999-2003)- Returned as the first democratically elected governor after the military era, leading major developmental projects.
8. Alhaji Ibrahim Idris (2003-2012)- Oversaw a period of substantial growth and continuity in the state’s development.
9. Captain Idris Wada (2012-2016) - Focused on educational and infrastructural development.
10. Alhaji Yahaya Bello (2016-2023) - Yahaya Bello has earned the title of "Father of Modern Kogi State" due to his commendable policies aimed at overhauling and reforming the state. His developmental projects span various sectors, including the transformation of the Kogi State Specialist Hospital in Lokoja into a world-class medical facility, and the building of the Okene Reference Hospital. He also established ultra-modern GYB model secondary schools in all the senatorial districts of the state. Under his administration, two state universities were established: the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, and Kogi State University, Kabba. Additionally, his government successfully constructed several key roads across the state, improving connectivity and boosting economic activities. Governor Bello's unwavering stance during the COVID-19 pandemic, along with his relentless fight against insecurity, further distinguished his leadership. His commitment to these critical issues has solidified his legacy as a transformative leader in Kogi State.
11. Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo (2023-present) - The current governor, has continued to consolidate on the legacies of his immediate predecessor. under his leadership, Kogi State has continue to witness growth, especially in the health sector, Agriculture, youth and women Empowerment, Security, Early and prompt payment of salary of workers amongst others
As we commemorate this day, I, Prof. Isah Yahaya Adagiri, on behalf of the entire medical community and the staff of Kogi State Specialist Hospital, Lokoja, wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to the government of Kogi State under the pragmatic leadership of the current administration for its relentless efforts in improving our health care infrastructure. The achievements in this sector are a testament to the administration's dedication to the health and well-being of all Kogites.
However, even as we celebrate, it is crucial to remember that the unity of our diverse ethnic groups—Ebira, Igala, and Okun, among others—remains the cornerstone of our collective progress. I call upon all Kogites to continue fostering this unity, as it is only through mutual understanding, cooperation, and a shared vision that we can achieve the development and prosperity we all desire for our state.
Let us, therefore, renew our commitment to working together, hand in hand, to build a Kogi State that not only meets the needs of its present citizens but also paves the way for a brighter, more prosperous future for generations to come.
As we look forward to the years ahead, it is my fervent prayer that Kogi State continues to witness unprecedented progress in all spheres of life. May our state remain a beacon of peace, unity, and development, and may we all contribute to its ongoing success.
Long live Kogi State!
Signed
Prof. Isah Yahaya Adagiri
CMD, Kogi State Specialist Hospital, Lokoja.
