Ebiya Community Celebrates Ododo, Honours Commissioner Abanika with Prayers and Festivities


The vibrant Ebiya community in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State came alive on Thursday, January 2, 2024, as residents organized a series of activities to celebrate their illustrious son, Hon. Abanika Taiye, the Honourable Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development. The event also served as an occasion to offer prayers for His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, and the government of Kogi State.

The day began with a mountaineering hike organized by the Eganyi Explorers, attracting prominent personalities, including Hon. Abanika Taiye. Addressing the enthusiastic group of youths, Hon. Abanika lauded their efforts in promoting the cultural and natural beauty of Ebira land and Kogi State. He attributed the peaceful and enabling environment to the foundations laid by the previous administration of His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello (CON), and the ongoing consolidation by the current administration of His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.


He emphasized the youth-oriented approach of Governor Ododo's government, citing strategic appointments and opportunities provided to young people. Extending goodwill from Hon. Sanni Egidi, the Member representing Ajaokuta Federal Constituency, the Commissioner urged the youths to remain supportive of government policies and programs.


In a separate event, Hon. Abanika attended an Islamic prayer session organized in his honour by the community. Clerics and residents gathered to pray for the health, success, and wisdom of Governor Ododo, Hon. Abanika, Hon. Sanni Egidi, and other leaders. The community expressed their gratitude to Governor Ododo for appointing one of their own to a key position in his cabinet.

Hon. Abanika, accompanied by his wife and family members, thanked the community for their unwavering prayers and support. He reiterated his appreciation to Governor Ododo for the opportunity to serve and to Hon. Sanni Egidi for his mentorship. Hon. Abanika assured the people of continued developmental strides, highlighting the ongoing consolidation of Governor Yahaya Bello’s legacy in building a modern Kogi State.

In the spirit of celebration, the Commissioner engaged various groups within the community, distributing foodstuffs and cash gifts to widows and women, leaving an indelible mark of kindness. The day concluded with joyful prayers and songs of thanksgiving from women, children, and religious leaders, who showered blessings on the Commissioner and the state’s leadership.
