Re: Urgent Intervention Needed on Rising Rent Prices in Lokoja
Press Release
The attention of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has been drawn to an online publication regarding a purported letter on the above subject matter, allegedly addressed to the Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, through the office of the Honourable Commissioner.
We wish to categorically state that no such letter has been officially received by the Honourable Commissioner or the Ministry. However, we acknowledge the critical housing challenges facing the residents of Lokoja and Kogi State at large. As a people-centered and responsive government, the administration of His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, is fully committed to addressing these issues through sustainable and impactful initiatives.
In this regard, we are pleased to inform the public of the following proactive measures already being implemented to address the rising rent and housing challenges in Lokoja and its environs:
1. Development of New Estates and Layouts:
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development is working diligently to build new estates, open new layouts, and engage developers to facilitate the construction of additional housing units. This will significantly increase the housing supply, thereby reducing the housing deficit and stabilizing rent prices across the state.
2. Formulation of a Housing Policy:
The Ministry is in the process of drafting a comprehensive edict to regulate the activities of landlords and curb arbitrary rent increases within the state. This policy will ensure fairness and promote affordable housing for all citizens.
In the interim, the Honourable Commissioner advises all concerned individuals with housing-related issues in Kogi State to submit their grievances through official channels. The office of the Honourable Commissioner remains open and accessible to address any concerns or suggestions from the good people of Kogi State.
Together, let us continue to build a state where decent and affordable housing is a reality for all.
Thank you, and may God bless Kogi State.
Signed
Hon. Abanika Taiye
Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development
Kogi State
