Kogi Assembly Passes Vote of Confidence on Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development

  The Kogi State House of Assembly has passed a vote of confidence on the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Abanika Taiye, in recognition of his performance and contributions to infrastructure development in the state. The resolution was adopted on Friday during an oversight visit by the House Committee on Physical and Urban Planning to the commissioner’s office. Speaking during the visit, Vice Chairman of the Committee and Member Representing Bassa State Constituency, Hon. Sunday Daku, commended Hon. Abanika for efficiently executing Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s mandate in the housing and urban development sector.   The Kogi State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has extended warm felicitations to muslims across the state as they begin the holy month of Ramadan. In a statement, the State Chairman of the NYCN, Comr. Benjamin Jeremiah Ojodale acknowledged the importance of Ramadan as a period of fasting, prayer, and reflection, emphasizing its values of self-discipline, compassion, and unity.  The Council encouraged young people to use the sacred month to deepen their spiritual devotion and commitment to community service. Illegal Occupation of Federal Housing Estate in Kogi: Commissioner Issues Fresh Warning

Kogi State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Abanika Taiye, has reiterated the government’s stance on the unauthorized occupation of the Federal Government’s National Housing Programme (NHP) estate in the Crusher Area of Kogi State. Over 85% of the housing units in the estate are reportedly being occupied illegally, with claims of fraudulent resale of properties meant for rightful allottees. During a visit to the estate on Monday, February 17, 2025, Hon. Abanika, accompanied by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary and other senior officials, inspected the facility as part of ongoing efforts to reclaim the houses for their legitimate owners. The visit follows a series of meetings and warnings issued to unauthorized occupants to vacate the premises. Bursary: Kogi Medical Students Appeals To Ododo For Inclusion

  The Kogi State Medical Student Association (KOMSA) has appealed to the governor of Kogi State, His excellency, Alhaji Usman Ododo to prioritize the welfare of medical students in the state.  The National President of the association, Comrade Omeiza Adeku Samuel who spoke with the newsmen on Monday decry the little recognition given to the medical students in terms of bursary payment. Adeku said 'less than 30% of medical students nationwide benefited from the state bursary'. He stated that despite paying the highest tuition in every Nigerian institutions across the country,  it's unfortunate that only the law students received a special package when it comes to bursary payment.  The President further stated that the 30,000 naira bursary payment promised by the state government is yet to be received by majority of the medical students who applied. Abanika Taiye, on Friday, February 7, 2025, held a strategic meeting with key stakeholders to resolve the lingering land dispute between the Ihiaga clan of Okehi Local Government Area and the Kogi State Polytechnic, Itakpe Campus. The meeting, chaired by Hon. Abanika, was attended by the Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Prof. Usman Ogbo; the Chairman of Okehi Local Government Area, Hon. Monday Eneji Amoka; the Kogi State Director-General of the Bureau of Lands, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Bureau of Lands and the State Surveyor General; representatives of the Ihiaga clan; and the contractors, Global Options Limited, responsible for the perimeter fencing of Kogi State Polytechnic, Itakpe Campus.
