Kogi Assembly Passes Vote of Confidence on Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development
The Kogi State House of Assembly has passed a vote of confidence on the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Abanika Taiye, in recognition of his performance and contributions to infrastructure development in the state.
The resolution was adopted on Friday during an oversight visit by the House Committee on Physical and Urban Planning to the commissioner’s office.
Speaking during the visit, Vice Chairman of the Committee and Member Representing Bassa State Constituency, Hon. Sunday Daku, commended Hon. Abanika for efficiently executing Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s mandate in the housing and urban development sector.
Describing the commissioner as a “square peg in a square hole,” Daku praised Governor Ododo for appointing competent individuals to key positions in the state’s executive council. He further assured the commissioner of the Assembly’s commitment to enacting legislative policies that will drive the state’s infrastructural development and foster a stronger collaboration between the executive and legislative arms of government.
In his response, Hon. Abanika expressed appreciation to the State Assembly for its continued support of Governor Ododo’s administration. He emphasized the productive synergy between the executive and legislative arms, which he credited for the steady progress in urban renewal and infrastructure development.
The commissioner outlined some of the ministry’s achievements over the last fiscal year, including construction projects at the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara (CUSTECH), and Kogi State University, Kabba; perimeter fencing at the EEDA Fashion Hub, Okene; construction of Police Squadron Barracks Quarters in Upogoro and Oro; ongoing construction of the Kogi State Audit House Complex; and the Lokoja Ultra-Modern Market Project amongst other completed and ongoing constructions across the State.
He further noted that the Regional Planning and Urban Development Bill has passed all legislative processes and is awaiting Governor Ododo’s assent. Once signed into law, the bill is expected to strengthen urban development policies across the state.
As part of the oversight function, the Assembly Committee, alongside the commissioner and his top management team, inspected several ongoing construction projects, including the Ultra-Modern Audit House Complex and the renovation of the State Court Complex in Lokoja.
The visit provided the lawmakers with a first-hand assessment of the progress of these projects and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to infrastructural transformation.
