APC Has Done More Good Than Harm in Kogi Central

The world operates on two sides; positive and negative. While we always hope for the best, we cannot entirely evade the challenges and imperfections that come with life.

No system is without flaws. Even in religious teachings, the woman caught in adultery was brought before Jesus, and He asked her accusers, "Whoever is without sin, let him cast the first stone." To the amazement of all, they walked away one after another. This highlights a fundamental truth: no individual or institution is perfect, yet we must weigh the positives alongside the negatives.

The APC-led government in Kogi State, particularly in Kogi Central, has delivered numerous dividends of democracy. While criticisms exist as they do in any democratic system, an objective review of the past years shows more developmental strides than setbacks.

One of the most commendable achievements of the APC government in Kogi Central is restoring peace and security. Many can still recall the dark days of 2006–2007 when violence and criminality reigned. Back then, people abandoned their homes and fled to the mountains for safety. Streets turned into semi-barracks, residents were forced to pay for bullets they never fired, young men were sent to their early graves, houses were set ablaze, and unimaginable atrocities were committed.

Today, that narrative has changed. Kogi Central is safer than it was before, and people can now move freely without fear of violent attacks. This transformation cannot be overlooked.

For years, bad roads plagued Kogi Central, making transportation a nightmare. However, under the APC administration, significant improvements have been made. Previously, traveling on roads such as Inorere-Ogaminana to Kuroko, Kuroko to Azad Palace, Okene-Eba to Agasa, Total to Ihima, Abobo Junction to FCE, Obuburu to Uhuodo, Obangede-Okaito-Usungwe, and Ihima-Obangede was like navigating a field of thorns. Today, all these roads have been constructed, greatly improving accessibility and boosting economic activities in the region.

Another milestone is the expansion of higher education opportunities. The Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara (CUSTECH) has not only brought quality education closer to the people but has also created employment for numerous youths. Additionally, the CUSTECH Teaching Hospital, Okene stands as a modern health facility, offering medical services and providing jobs for many qualified professionals from Kogi Central. Beyond these, more young people are now employed in ministries, agencies, and parastatals across the state, a scenario that was once unimaginable.

Even amid political tensions, the APC administration in Kogi Central has upheld peace and stability. A case in point is the recent recall signature controversy. Despite the heated debates and opposing views, no life has been lost, nor has there been any recorded case of unlawful arrests or kidnappings. This is a testament to the government’s commitment to democracy and tolerance.

It is undeniable that not all expectations have been met. However, governance is a continuous process, and human needs are insatiable. The reality remains that the APC government in Kogi Central has surpassed what existed before.

It would be unfair, because of individual preferences, to demonize a government that has invested so much in its people. We must acknowledge that being a governor is not the same as holding any other political office within the state, it is a much more demanding responsibility.

While constructive criticism is necessary for growth, we must also give credit where it is due. His Excellency Alh. Yahaya Adoza Bello, CON, and his successor, Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo, have made significant strides in governance. As citizens, we should appreciate their efforts while holding them accountable for further development.

God bless Kogi State.
