Joy in Ajaokuta as Governor Ododo Approves Construction of Unosi–Ebiya Road

The people of Ajaokuta were thrown into jubilation on Friday, 27th of June, 2025, as news broke that His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, Governor of Kogi State, has approved the long-awaited construction of the Unosi to Ebiya Road. This development sparked widespread celebrations across the local government area.

The Honourable Commissioner for Works, Engr. Muhammed Ahovi Yusuf, alongside his counterpart, the Honourable Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Abanika Taiye, visited Ajaokuta for an on-the-spot assessment of the road in preparation for the commencement of construction.

Addressing political and community stakeholders, Engr. Ahovi emphasized that Governor Ododo, a visionary and people-oriented leader, graciously approved the project as part of his administration’s commitment to equitable development across all parts of the state. He noted that he had to request the presence of his brother and colleague, Hon. Abanika Taiye who also is an indigene of the local government and has been part of the struggles for the construction of this road for this crucial on-the-spot assessment.

In his remarks, Hon. Abanika Taiye expressed profound gratitude to Governor Ododo for responding to the longstanding plea of the people of Ajaokuta. He described the approval as a significant milestone that reaffirms the Governor’s reputation as a “talk-and-do” leader who prioritizes the welfare of his people.

"This gesture has strengthened the love and loyalty of Ajaokuta people to His Excellency," Hon. Abanika said. "We are confident that this road project will not only boost transportation but also open up economic opportunities for our communities."

He also lauded the political foundation laid by the former Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, describing it as a solid legacy of development that the current administration is building upon. Hon. Abanika equally appreciated the Honourable Member representing Ajaokuta Federal Constituency, Hon. Abdulraheem Sanni Egidi, for his advocacy and strategic engagement with the state government, which contributed significantly to the approval of the project.

In conclusion, he commended Engr. Muhammed Ahovi for his proactive and diligent efforts in ensuring infrastructure development across the state and offered prayers for continued peace and progress in Kogi State.

Other speakers at the event included the Chairman of Ajaokuta Local Government Area and various community leaders. They all expressed deep appreciation to the state government, pledging maximum support and cooperation for the successful execution of the project. They also assured the safety of personnel and materials that will be deployed, emphasizing that Ajaokuta people now feel fully integrated into the consolidation agenda of the current administration.

The assessment tour ended at Ebiya, where the commissioners joined the Muslim faithful to observe the Jumaat prayers. During the session, fervent prayers were offered by The Chief Imam and the Paramount Traditional Chief, Idu of Ebiya for Former Governor Yahaya Bello, Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo, the Honourable Member representing Ajaokuta Federal Constituency, and all other political appointees, seeking divine guidance, protection, and continued success for the administration and the people of Kogi State.
