Rivers APC Calls for Resumption of Impeachment Proceedings Against Gov Sim Fubara in State Assembly

Amidst the ongoing face-off between the governor and the Awaewhule-led faction, which has seen the assembly overriding Fubara on certain bills, the caretaker committee of the APC in Rivers has urged the state house of assembly to initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara.

During a press conference held in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Tony Okocha, the APC chair in the state, criticized the governor for "insulting" Tinubu.

"We cannot idly stand by while someone of lesser stature than Mr. President insults him right before our eyes," Okocha stated.

He further condemned the governor's actions of imposing impunity and intimidation on members of the APC, emphasizing that they cannot remain passive.

"As representatives of Mr. President, we refuse to tolerate any disrespect towards him by the governor. Nor will we tolerate the governor's unilateral declarations, behaving as if he has the authority to declare Assembly members' seats vacant," Okocha asserted.

"In light of this, in consultation with our party, we urge APC members in the Assembly to immediately initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor Sim Fubara," he added.

"And should they fail to do so, we will exercise party discipline as stipulated in the constitution to address the matter decisively."
